Welcome to this week’s edition of Stacks & Spoons, a weekly substack for bookish girls, gays and theys, written by author Jen Wilde. If you enjoy it, make sure to subscribe here.
Paige Not Found is the best thing I’ve ever written so far in my career.
If you like my writing and my characters, then you will love Paige. It would help me immensely if you pre-ordered it today.
Everyone who pre-orders and submits their receipt will receive an illustrated art print drawn by me. It shows Paige (the queer, autistic, nonbinary main character) in her bedroom, sitting on her laptop, galaxy light glowing, cat on the bed with her. This is Paige in her happy place, where she feels safe, surrounded by everything that brings her joy.
Pre-order from Books Are Magic to get the art print and a signed copy of the book!
Why are pre-orders so important?
Pre-orders show publishers, stores & libraries how much excitement there is for a book. Every pre-order helps keep an author’s career alive, encourages more marketing push, or could even land the book on bestseller lists. This is especially important for marginalized authors.
About Paige Not Found
As much as Paige hates the word normal, it’s the best one to describe her life. Just yesterday, if someone had told her she’d be stuck in traffic with three total strangers on a mission to stop a global organization from controlling their minds, she would have laughed. But somehow this is real life.
Paige just learned that her parents enrolled her in a study without her consent. She is autistic, and in an effort to better understand her mind, a chip was implanted in her brain that can keep track of her location, and emotions. It can even boost chemicals that affect her mood. Suddenly, Paige isn’t sure who she can trust. Can she even trust her own mind anymore?
The company that created her chip is days away from merging with the most popular social network in the world, with a reputation for selling people’s private information to the highest bidder.
Now there is only one thing Paige can do. Armed with the names and addresses of the other kids involved in the study, she can track them down and show them the truth. Maybe together they can put a stop to this merger and figure out how to get their chips removed for good.
A Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, Paige Not Found received a starred review from Kirkus, who called it “An empowering kids-versus-corporation quest packed full of disability pride.”
